Stokes Farm Eggs

Stokes Farm Eggs

Wokingham, Berkshire

A family business based in Wokingham, operating a modern mixed farm with a range of enterprises centred around the production of free range eggs on 70 acres of pasture. They’ve produced eggs for over 30 years so have a long history of working with hens on range and believe they know just what it takes to make them happy hens!

They’ve always maintained that hens are more content in smaller groups, so they rotate five flocks, giving them the egg sizes they need and continuity of supply. Each hen house has plenty of popholes which are opened first thing in the morning so the hens can get on with their busy day. You’ll notice they’re always on the move, pecking and scratching in the grass.

Key to the health of our hens is a good diet. They work with their dedicated feed supplier, Humphrey Feeds, to devise unique feed rations that have helped our eggs gain their incredibly tasty reputation.

Hens lay an egg on most days and usually in the morning so their first egg collection begins after 8.00 am. Grading and packing follows and then eggs are ready for delivery.

Two Hoots Cheese

Barkham, Berkshire

Founded by Sandy and Andy Rose in the early 2000s, Two Hoots Cheese is a small operation that grew out of Sandy’s cheesemaking hobby and farming background. “My dad was a dairy farmer in Berkshire,” she explains. “In the early 90s my husband Andy and I set up a smallholding in Hampshire where we kept rare breed cattle, goats, chickens and a pig. We also ran a mobile farm taking the animals out going out to local schools. We were milking the goats just for ourselves, but it was suggested that we should try making some fresh cheese from the milk. Our first batch was created in a bucket in the kitchen in 1999, then left to hang in a muslin bag in the shower and that’s where it all started.”

We stock Barkham Blue in the farm shop, which has a buttery flavour, creamy texture and a mild peppery blue tang and one of our most popular cheeses.

Capreolus Fine Foods Logo

Capreolus Fine Foods

West Dorset

A multi-award winning, family owned English artisan charcuterie producer in Rampisham, West Dorset. Quality and provenance are of the utmost importance to them and they source locally bred and reared free range meat from traditional and rare breeds wherever possible and seasonal wild meats from the West Country.

Curing of the meat follows age-old traditional techniques combined with a flair and instinct for flavour. Air-drying of the cured meat is carried out in temperature and humidity controlled rooms to overcome the vagaries of the British weather. Smoke is used to enhance the flavour of some of the meats using beech wood chips which give a delicate flavour that never dominates the fine qualities of the meats.
